Massage Questions you always wanted to know, but were afraid to ask

Are you new to Massage? Don't worry, we were all newbies at one time! You're in the right place

What should I expect during my first massage visit?
Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form, if you have not done so online. You may be asked follow-up questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions you would like addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your muscle function, and determine what areas may need specific care.

Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room at our cozy home-based office. Soft music will be playing to help you relax, while you are securely draped with sheets and a soft blanket on a table designed just for your comfort..

What do I wear during the massage?
For a full body massage, most people undress completely, however, you may choose to wear underwear.  For women, you will need to remove your bra for back and shoulder work. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and time to make yourself comfortable on the table under the top sheet & blanket.

What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
Make yourself comfortable and try to relax completely. Your therapist will move you or will ask you to move, as needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and drift away with the music, while others prefer to talk. It is entirely up to you! It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions and communicate with your therapist at any time during the session.

How will a massage feel?
Every massage is as unique as you are! Massage typically begins with long flowing strokes designed to apply oil and being your relaxation, while warming up your skin and muscles. Make sure to communicate with your therapist about pressure during your service. Massage should be relaxing, and, although you may experience some discomfort due to stress and painful muscles, it should "hurt so good" and never be downright painful. You are in control on how the pressure feels, so don't be shy about speaking up!

Will the massage oils used make me break-out?
We have a hypoallergenic blend of fractionated coconut oil, palm stearate and hexane-free grapeseed oil, that remains liquid at room temperature provided by Natural Treasure. This oil is safe for use for people with nut allergies, and is fragrance and essential oil free for those sensitive to smell, or allergice to essential oils. Our oil is infused with herbs known to help with pain and stress relief including white willow bark, lavendar, peppermint, calendula and red rose petals. We also provide organic, vegan, unscented massage cream/salve/oil from Sacred Earth Botanicals. If you have trouble using unknown products, please feel free to let us know about a specific lotion/oil that works best with your skin - we are happy to accommodate our clients for their specific needs.

Is there any reason I should not have a massage?
Yes, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate - which is why it is necessary that you fill out your intake forms before beginning your session. Your therapist will ask general health questions to determine if you have any conditions that would prevent you from receiving massage. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking! If you are under a doctor's care for a specific issue or illness, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session, and let your therapist know the name and contact information for your doctor.

How long will a massage treatment last?
The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour (60 minutes). Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Allow 10-15 minutes before and after your session to fill out any necessary paperwork and change clothes/get dressed.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from stress, tension or repetitive activity injuries. After an initial period of feeling pleasantly tired, many people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days or weeks. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your session. Epsom salt baths are a wonderful way to alleviate any residual soreness or aches resulting from deeper work. Also consider other stress relieving techniques such as light stretching, yoga, breathing exercises, etc. Your therapist may make some recommendations for follow-up care to extend the benefits of your massage.
